One-Glass Solution (OGS): Shrinking Touchscreens and Costs

43inch Capacitive Touch Screen

In capacitive touchscreen manufacturing, the One-Glass Solution (OGS) is a key innovation that integrates the touch sensor directly into the cover glass. Unlike traditional G+G (glass plus glass) structures, OGS removes a glass layer, resulting in a thinner, lighter, and more cost-effective module.

OGS typically uses either a sensor-on-lens approach-where the ITO sensor is patterned directly on the inner surface of the cover glass-or on-cell technology, where the touch layer is deposited on the LCD itself. The elimination of the additional sensor glass improves optical clarity by reducing light reflection and refraction between layers. This leads to sharper image quality and better sunlight readability.

From a manufacturing standpoint, OGS reduces materials, simplifies the bonding process, and supports sleek, edge-to-edge designs. However, it also poses challenges in yield rate and durability, especially in larger displays. OGS is widely used in smartphones, tablets, and industrial HMIs where compact design and performance matter.
